Location & Area
Although set in a peaceful tranquil hamlet, the property is conveniently situated close to the small towns of Sorbas, Lubrin & Uleila del Campo.
All have a wealth of café bars, banks, shops, small supermarkets and all have a weekly market selling the usual goods but particularly fresh fruit and vegetables.
Sorbas, which is only 15 minutes away has a 24 hour medical centre and the major hospital in Almeria is only 35 minutes away, as is the airport.
There are highly praised schools in each of the towns and each has its own municipal swimming pool.
Uleila has a massive ferreteria (DIY store) selling almost everything you could possibly need from a single screw to fridges & the latest TV’s. There are also builders merchants, Carpenters shops, metal working, mechanics shops and even a Bodega for the local wine makers.
Sorbas is noted for its Gypsum caves and local pottery making.
There are 3 local olive presses where we have taken our olives to be turned into our own virgin olive oil.
The whole area is predominantly agricultural, given over to mostly Olive & Almond production. Needless to say that in January/February the whole area is a picture when the Almond blossom is in full bloom.
Another attraction is the old tradition of the goat herders roaming the hills with their herds. Goat’s milk production is another way of earning a living, all the milk is collected and taken to the Co-operativa to be turned into Cheese! The next time you see “President” Cheese in the local supermarket, the odds are that the milk was produced here!
A little further afield is the town of Tabernas with its renowned film studios where the spaghetti westerns were made starring Clint Eastwood. Other films made here include Lawrence of Arabia, Patton, Conan the Barbarian and many others. The studios are open to visitors. Also close by is the “Oasys” theme park with it’s cowboy town and Zoo.
Granada is only an hour and a half away with the “Alhambra Palace” and is a site worth seeing dating back to the Moorish times.
The resort of Mojacar (reputed to be the birthplace of Walt Disney) is only 35 minutes away, with all the usual tourist attractions including golf and a water park.
This makes our area ideal, being far enough away from the tourist crowds, but near enough if you want to be in amongst all the action
